STYLE GUIDE: PATRIOTIC ART

On 07, Sep 2010 | No Comments | In Dallas, Decorating, Home, Inspiration | By Lane

How fitting that I would be shopping for patriotic art on Labor Day. I think this calls for a post. I have been struggling to find a piece to hang above our sectional sofa that is both large and affordable. The wall is HUGE, so most standard-sized art would just get lost in the space. Since we both prefer original artwork, I’ve been scouring Etsy, eBay, and a few other sites for one-of-a-kinds that meet most of our wishes:

• at least 48″ wide
• interesting media
• easy to hang on concrete (ugh)
• American-themed (or as Alex would say, UH-MER-CAN)

• under $400

My if-we-won-the-lottery pick:
$3,520

My we-could-totally-make-this-ourselves-and-save-a-bunch-of-money pick:
$600
My shout-out-to-home pick:
$95 (without framing)
My BADASS pick:
$200 (24×36)
THE TOP CONTENDER:
$290 (+FREE SHIPPING!)

The winner (as of now) is a 5-panel steel “sculpture” that is hand painted. A little abstract, almost surreal, and full of movement. It’s a little more in-your-face than I would typically go for, but what better thing to stand out in room than a beautiful American flag?
