National Handwriting Day
Today is National Handwriting Day. How fitting, as I wrote my love a letter on the bathroom mirror this morning. It may have been a to-do list, but it still counts :)
“Handwriting allows us to be artists and individuals during a time when we often use computers, faxes and e-mail to communicate. Fonts are the same no matter what computer you use or how you use it. Fonts lack a personal touch. Handwriting can add intimacy to a letter and reveal details about the writer’s personality. Throughout history, handwritten documents have sparked love affairs, started wars, established peace, freed slaves, created movements and declared independence.”
I thought I would celebrate by highlighting one of my favorite calligraphers, Dallas-based Nicole Black of the Left Handed Calligrapher. She offers a wide range of styles to fit any occasion, which I think shows amazing skill. I would love to hire her — I just need an event to design first. (Any brides out there — I’m talking to you!)
I love Nicole’s simple statement describing her work: “embracing beautiful writing and the art of the handwritten note.”
I think we should all take a little time today to do just that.
